Cultural Council eyes diesel plant for arts center

VERO BEACH — With the enthusiastic backing of beachside philanthropist Dick Stark, the Indian River Cultural Council is laying the groundwork for a campaign to acquire the historic diesel power plant in downtown Vero. Hoping to turn it into an arts center similar to the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, VA, the umbrella arts organization believes it can raise $4 million to renovate the shell of a building into 30 second-floor artists’ studios, with a restaurant downstairs. Cultural Council expands Artists Registry

VERO BEACH -- The Cultural Council of Indian River County is expanding the membership's Artists Registry to include authors and writers, musicians, bands, actors and entertainment troupes. The new registry will be promoted beginning in October in hopes that organizations seeking entertainment, speakers and exhibiting fine artists will consult the Cultural Council's registry. Artists Registry: Fine artists artisans and photographers of all styles and mediums are invited to submit five images of their work, links to their website and contact information. Musicians Registry: Solos, duos, trios and full bands available for hire will be listed with an embedded performance video or sound, links to their website, contact information and a statement about the musical genre they perform. Cultural Council expands Artists Registry

VERO BEACH -- The Cultural Council of Indian River County is expanding its Artists Registry to include not only visual artists, but also musicians & bands, dancers/dance troupes, actors and local authors/writers. In addition to contact information and a link to the member's website, visual artists currently have a five image portfolio of their artwork on the Cultural Council's website. Listings for performing artists will include an embedded performance video (i.e., YouTube) and authors may have a photo of their book covers with links to purchase (i.e., Amazon.com).
