United Way invites volunteers and agencies to participate in Day of Caring

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — United Way of Indian River County invites volunteers and social service agencies to sign up for its annual Day of Caring, Saturday, Sept. 24.

Volunteers head out in teams to help local health and human service agencies with much needed painting, fixing, and yard work.

Local health and human service agencies are urged to sign up for a project. The United Way Day of Caring is a national event, put on every year by over 1300 United Ways around the country. Projects range from washing and waxing emergency vehicles to assembling Hurricane Preparedness Kits with the children of Youth Guidance.

“It’s the one time a year that volunteers can lend their muscle to help an agency in need,” says United Way CEO Michael Kint.

“Matching volunteers with community service is what we do best,” agrees United Way Day of Caring Co-Coordinator Doris Butler. “These volunteers will visit agencies, roll up their sleeves and make a real difference. It is a day of hard work and great reward.”

In the past five years, more than 1000 volunteers, from more than 51 businesses, contributed their time to complete 60 projects at nonprofit agencies throughout Indian River County.

United Way is pleased to announce that Bank of America is this year’s Day of Caring Sponsor.

“This sponsorship is essential in helping United Way and its partner agencies fulfill the mission of Day of Caring,” stated Faith Frazier, United Way’s Director of Workplace Giving and Day of Caring Co-Coordinator, “to connect volunteers with worthy work in the community.”

Last year’s Day of Caring was the largest in the history of the organization, with over 363 volunteers completing over 22 projects at area nonprofits.
