Habitat Cracker HoeDown changes its date from fall to spring

VERO BEACH — The popular Indian River Habitat for Humanity Habitat Cracker HoeDown, which has always taken place in November, will now take place at the other end of the year, mostly to avoid the intense conflict of events and difficulty in securing a date.

The next Habitat Cracker HoeDown will take place March 3, 2012, at Riverside Park in Vero Beach. It will still feature all the same popular games, live music, a silent auction, catered meal, cash bars and the usual “more fun than you can shake a stick at” you’ve come to expect. The committee is already hard at work.

Deputies: Man with knife damages more than $9K worth of furniture

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Deputies are asking for the public's help in identifying a man they said was caught on video slashing more than $9,000 worth of furniture at a local store. The incident unfolded about 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Indian River Habitat for Humanity ReStore, 4580 U.S. 1. The man walked in the store and used a knife to damage the furniture, deputies said. The Ocean Research & Conservation Association (ORCA), the Indian River Charter High School, the Florida Institute of Technology Scott Center for Autism Treatment, and the Shining Light Garden Foundation are all $100,000 richer, thanks to the 433 philanthropic members of Indian River County Impact 100.
