Renegade Cruisers to host one last show before disbanding

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Renegade Cruisers Car Club will hold one final car show in the K-Mart parking lot off US 1 and then disband after the failing health of one of its founding members.

The last show will be held next Monday, Aug. 15.

The following is an open letter, as submitted by Activities Coordinator Terri Kaminski, from The Renegade Cruisers about the decision to shut down:

The Renegade Cruisers is closing down, due to the health of one of the founding members. The show takes a lot of work and it is not good for a person with a very bad heart and has been bad for some time.

He has had a health condition for about 20-plus years. Nothing else can be done…he can no longer take the stress and strain of doing car shows.

We formed the Renegade Cruisers back in 1996, started in Fort Pierce had a lot of success there, moved to Royal Palm Pointe for a few years, still more success but the best spot for a car show is the last location at the K-Mart Plaza in Vero Beach. We have had the most public interest at this location.

Our last show will be August 15, 2011. We do something different at certain months throughout the year, like, May is our Anniversary show, and August is our trunk sale show, that is you may bring whatever fits in your classic vehicle to the show to sell.

October and November is our toy drives, we collect toys for our local underprivileged children and we have had food drives, done shows for Meals on Wheels, and done parades and benefits for local families in need.

The Blood Bank bus was at one of our shows, and we have done shows for the fight against cancer and so on.

Our people have the biggest hearts and they give until it hurts and it hurts a lot sometimes.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the gearheads and car guys and gals for their support and friendship through the years. The club is breaking up but we will still be around at someone else’s shows.

I would also like to thank the many sponsors we have had to help with the expenses of putting on the kind of show we do, all the people who pitch in to help without as much as a word.
