Weekend Winners: Things to do in Indian River County

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – This is Father’s Day weekend – if you do nothing else, be sure to spend some of it with Dear Ol’ Dad and let him know how much he means to you.

Other happenings this weekend include a Sip of the City Main Street Vero Beach event, the debut of Disney’s Little Mermaid Jr. at the Riverside Children’s Theatre and the seventh annual Waterlily Celebration at McKee Botanical Garden.

Intrepid Art Gallery at Pelican Plaza in Vero Beach hosts a Solo Exhibition, “Art Sonata in 3D Minor” with mixed media artist David Diaz.

Thursday

Mulligan’s Pirate & Princess Party to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs from 5 – 8 p.m. kids eat free and 20% of proceeds are donated to charity.

Constitution Forum Discussion presented by the Liberty Forum of Indian River County at the Vero Beach Recreation Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.; class begins at 6:30 p.m.

Friday

Join Fred Mazza, the “Fossil Guy,” at the North Indian River County Library on Friday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. for a lesson on Florida’s rich past.

Beat the Heat at The Stamp, 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Sip of the City, a Main Street Vero Beach Friday night happy hour party, offering drink specials and themed appetizers.

Friday and Saturday

Riverside Children’s Theatre is one of the first in the country to present the new musical “Disney’s Little Mermaid, Jr.” for children ages 4 and up.  Performances at 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Anne Morton Theatre.

The USCG Auxiliary Flotilla 58 in Fort Pierce will teach an all-day About Boating Safe class beginning at 8 a.m.

“Donuts with Dad” Father’s Day Celebration with Miss Julie and special guest author and illustrator Ethan Long presenting My Dad, My Hero, 11 a.m. in the Vero Beach Book Center Children’s Store.

McKee Botanical Garden Seventh Annual Waterlily Celebration, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. features more than 90 varieties and 200 individual waterlilies, along with scheduled demonstrations on photography, origami, outdoor painting, repotting, aquatic plant and koi sales, and the Waterlily Photo Contest.

Democratic Women’s Club of Indian River County potluck luncheon, 11:30 a.m.at the Indian River County Main Library with featured guest speaker Rev. Denny Hart of the Indian River NAACP.

Vero Classical Ballet presents An Evening at the Ballet, 7 p.m. at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center.

Intrepid Art Gallery is hosting a celebration of life, with artist and musician David Diaz beginning at 5 p.m. at the Surf Club Hotel on A-1-A.

Sunday

Father’s Day – Spend some time with Dad and show him how much he means to you.

Sibling musicians Suliman and Jamila Tekalli will perform at First Presbyterian Church, Royal Palm Boulevard, Vero Beach, at 3 p.m. They performed at the White House in 2009.
