Albert Morris, 89, Vero Beach

Albert Morris, 89, died June 2, 2011, at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.

He was born in Detroit and lived in Vero Beach for three years, coming from Palm Harbor.

He worked as an educator in Detroit.

He was a member of the Palm Harbor Methodist Church.

Survivors include his son, Michael J. Morris, of Vero Beach; daughter, Kathleen Morris, of East Lansing, Mich.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250, Attention: Gift Processing.

Interment will take place at The People’s Church of East Lansing, East Lansing, Mich.

Arrangements are by Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory in Vero Beach.

Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." 11-year-old breaks into church, steals laptop on Christmas Day

GIFFORD — An 11-year-old who deputies said broke into a church and stole a laptop on Christmas Day, was detained. Deputies also arrested the boy's mother after saying she failed to report the boy as missing. The Gifford youth told deputies he stole the $700 laptop because "he wanted something to play with," reports show. Deputies said the juvenile was a runaway. An arrest report noted the incident took place at St. Peter's Missionary Baptist Church, located just south of St. Peter's Academy. Both facilities have the same address at 4250 38th Avenue, Gifford. ‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. "He was well-liked by teammates and was extremely coachable. His coaches and teammates are taking it pretty hard," Sebastian River High School Athletic Director Jessica Upchurch said.
