Walter C. Stugis, 94, Vero Beach

Walter C. Stugis, 94, died May 24, 2011, at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.

He was born in Rochester, N.Y., and lived in Vero Beach for nine years, coming from Weed, N.M.

He retired from Eastman Kodak Co. after 42 years as manager of Distillation Products in 1982.

He served in the Navy as lieutenant commander during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

He earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from University of Rochester in Rochester.

He was a licensed professional engineer in the State of New York and was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach.

He was awarded several gold medals in the Senior Olympics for swimming.

Survivors include his son, Walter Stugis, of Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.; daughters, Gerry Nogelo, of Vero Beach and Elaine Wright, of Weed; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Lillian Stugis.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. May 28 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Hastings-on-Hudson.

Interment will be in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Rochester.

Arrangements are by Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory in Vero Beach.
