Music Academy expands summer programs

VERO BEACH — Due to increased interest in value-priced music instruction, The Academy for the Performing Arts, a non-profit music school in existence since 1994, is expanding its summer program to include group lessons in band, guitar, percussion and voice.

“These new classes allow a larger segment of the community to get music instruction at a rate that is affordable.  And the classes will be fun and will be offered at various levels, depending on age and experience.   We want everyone to be able to enjoy learning new musical skills, and this is a great way to do it,” said Harriet Yemm, Executive Director.

“I have to say it has turned out to be a huge success,” said band instructor Ron Youmans, of the new band he formed in January.

“I have taught privately and publically for 40 years and this may be one of the best experiences I have had.  I hope we can build on this program this summer.”

Academy instructors David DeGraeve, John Houpt, and Terri Ellis are also looking forward to working with students in groups this summer.

Group lessons are $130 for the summer session which begins Monday, June 6 and runs for eight weeks.   There is a payment plan so the entire amount does not have to be paid at one time.   That is only $16.25 for a 45-minute instruction by one of the Academy’s professional instructors – a real bargain!

Private instruction will also be available.

The Academy for the Performing Arts’ classes are held at the First Baptist Church in Vero Beach.
