Corrections deputy, accused drug dealer arrested in ‘parallel’ investigations

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – An Indian River County Corrections Deputy and an accused drug trafficker were arrested after authorities completed two “parallel” investigations, Sheriff Deryl Loar announced Thursday.

Eight-year Corrections Deputy Shawn Mincey and Alan Dale Williams Jr. were arrested Thursday morning on unrelated charges. Mincey faces a misdemeanor charge of allowing a known suspended driver to use her vehicle. That suspended driver was Williams, who was arrested on numerous charges of drug trafficking.

According to Sheriff Loar, Mincey and Williams lived together in her home. Whether she knew Williams’ alleged narcotics involvement is still under investigation.

Sheriff Loar said after the announcement Thursday that more charges could be filed against the corrections deputy.

Mincey is currently on paid administrative leave as is protocol for officers facing misdemeanor charges.

Authorities began investigating Williams more than a month ago, after he was initially picked up on drug charges. During the course of that investigation, the Sheriff’s Office learned of the relationship between Williams and Mincey.

Sheriff Loar said there is a policy prohibiting officers to fraternize with known criminals and convicted felons.

Investigators received a search warrant, which was executed at Mincey’s home. They seized three weapons, including a handgun, a shotgun, and a semi-automatic rifle inside the home and several hundred dollars in cash.

A quarter-pound of marijuana and a trafficking amount of oxycodone were found in a vehicle and under a dog shed on the property, according to Commander Darin Jones.

Whether Mincey knew about the drugs at her home also remains under investigation.

“It’s a safer day in Indian River County,” Sheriff Loar said of Williams’ arrest.

As for Mincey’s arrest, the sheriff said it is a reflection on her bad choices, not on the Sheriff’s Office itself, adding that her decisions had consequences.

Williams faces charges that include two counts each of trafficking oxycodone and sale of marijuana, trafficking hydrocodone, and possession of marijuana with intent to sell, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

He is being held at the county jail without bond.

Mincey was released from jail on $500 bail.
