Donald Thomas Brickner, 85, Vero Beach

Donald Thomas Brickner, 85, died May 5, 2011, at his home in Vero Beach.

He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and lived in Vero Beach for 29 years, coming from his birthplace. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University and was an active member of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity.

Brickner was a branch sales manager for Conover Mass Publishing Company, Cleveland, Ohio, for 25 years before his retirement in 1982.

Survivors include his son, Donald Thomas Brickner II., of Las Vegas, Nev.; and a grandson.

Brickner was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Brickner in 1991.

Memorial contributions may be made to Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation, 6070 South Eastern Ave Suite 200, Las Vegas, Nevada 89119 in memory of Donald T. Brickner.

A private graveside service will be in Crestlawn Cemetery, Vero Beach.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
