EATS: The chef is back!

Good morning readers! I’m back – in the kitchen, anyways. I had taken a bit of a sabbatical from cooking…my heart just wasn’t in it for a while – but it’s all good now.

I have to say, it was probably necessary for me to get out of the kitchen for a spell, if for no other reason than to recharge my culinary creativity. Now, I eagerly comb my cooking magazines and cookbooks, peruse supermarket fliers and the Internet in search of inspiration. I’m also getting caught up on the cooking shows I watch on Food Network and the Cooking Channel.

One show I’m particularly fond of on Food Network is Quick Fix Meals with Robin Miller – she’s the one who shows you how to reuse extra ingredients prepped ahead in another meal.

Taking my cue from her, I browned up extra ground turkey with seasonings and onion when preparing a homemade pasta sauce. Before adding the tomatoes and other sauce ingredients, I spooned out about half the turkey mixture, saving it for tacos later in the week.

Turned out to be a dinner-saver for us that evening, a couple days later. Instead of having to defrost the turkey from the freezer and get it browned and seasoned, I just had to pull the food storage container from the fridge and nuke for a minute or so in the microwave.

It took longer to chop the onion, tomato, lettuce and cilantro!

But, when both Keith and I had an assignment to get to within the hour, dinner was super quick and non-stressed.

I’m looking forward to my renewed sense of culinary adventure – and I’m sure Keith is, too!

Happy Eats!
