David Edward Gerard, 82, Vero Beach

David Edward Gerard, 82, died May 3, 2011, at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach.

He was born in Oyster Bay, N.Y., and lived in Vero Beach for 25 years, coming from New York. He retired as a detective with the Nassau County (N.Y.) Police Department after 35 years of service.

He was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church, Vero Beach.

He was a member of the Police Benevolent Association, Detectives Association Inc. and Police Holy Name Society and a 55-year member of St. Dominic’s Usher Society and Life Member Council 1206 Knights of Columbus, Oyster Bay.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Alice Janet Noble Gerard; sons, David Gerard and Robert Gerard; daughter, Kathleen Taddonio, brother, Ronald Gerard; stepsister, Joan Stockel; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. followed by a wake service at 7:30 p.m. May 6 at Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, Vero Beach.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. May 7 at St. Helen Catholic Church.
