Coast Guard Station Open House

There will be a free community event at the Coast Guard Station Fort Pierce from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14.

The annual Open House event, held  in advance of National Safe Boating Week, is a wonderful opportunity for the public to learn what the men and women of the Coast Guard and the Coast Guard Auxiliary do to educate and protect not only the boating public, but the security of our ports, shores, pleasure boaters, and commercial vessels. The public is encouraged to tour the Station, board the cutters in port as well as the small rescue boats. They will be able to observe displays of flare usage, life jacket demonstrations, pollution control, plus other aspects of environmental protection and security.

Coast Guard Air Station Miami will provide a helicopter  rescue swimmer demonstration just off the docks at the station.

Multiple agencies will be on hand such as the fire department and law enforcement agencies. Coastie, the little robotic tugboat will, as usual, roll about the station interacting with children and adults alike. In years past it has always proven to be entertaining, and informative.

Hot dogs and beverages will be available for purchase, members of the Auxiliary will be handing out ice cream coupons to children that can be used at some of the local restaurants.
