Bleachers at Vero Beach High’s Citrus Bowl to get fixed up

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – Reinforced steel corrosion has taken a toll on the concrete bleachers at the Citrus Bowl, according to the Indian River County School District.

To fix up the bleachers, the Indian River County School Board is expected to approve a contract this evening to hire Barth Construction.

The contract with Barth Construction has a guaranteed maximum price of a little more than $389,300.

In December, the School Board awarded the contract to Barth Construction and, in the meantime, district staff has worked to negotiate a maximum price for the work.

The scope of the work consists of repairing deteriorated concrete, rail posts and base connections, as well as grouting loose concrete steps.

Once work begins, construction could take about 12 weeks to complete, according to the School District.

Also on the agenda for the Indian River County School Board this evening are agreements with the Boys & Girls Club of Indian River County and the Gifford Youth Activity Center to provide transportation, as well as an agreement with Indian River State College for all secondary and career/technical programs taught at Sebastian River and Vero Beach high schools.

The Indian River County School Board is also expected to discuss renewing certain software agreements that track student progress in reading and adding Algebra 2 A and B as they will be a future requirement.

The School Board meeting begins at 6 p.m. and is held in the Teacher Education Center of the School District Central Office, 1990 25th St., Vero Beach. Meetings are televised on Comcast Channel 28.
