Vero Beach apartment shooting believed to be accidental

VERO BEACH – The Vero Beach Police Department believes the shooting of a 16-year-old in an apartment complex off 16th Street was accidental.

The department released updated information Monday stating that the teen, who has not been identified, is expected to recover from his injury.  

“At this time the incident is still under investigation and no criminal charges have been filed,” the Police Department stated.

At this time the Vero Beach Police Department is not releasing the names of the parties involved or further details of the shooting pending completion of the investigation.

On Friday, authorities responded to Shadowbrook Apartments in regard to a shooting. The teen’s brother, who was in the same vehicle during the incident, was interviewed and released.

An 18-year-old, who was identified as the driver, was stopped at 12th Street near Indian River Boulevard just be 7 p.m.

The driver, who was not identified, was taken into custody for questioning.

The investigation continues.
