SPORTS: Vero Bowl celebrates first 300 game

Cory Washington of Port St Lucie had a night to remember Monday night, when he bowled the first 300 game at Vero Bowl since its renovation. Never mind that Washington isn’t from Vero Beach–the bowling community is too laid back and friendly to care about that.  Coming from Vero Bowl’s Facebook page:

“The NEW Vero Bowl’s 1st 300 GAME!!! Congratulations to Cory Washington. Great job Cory. People have come close but tonight – YOU did it!!! Congrats!!”

The fact that it took seven months for a perfect game to be bowled really speaks to the accomplishment.  And speaking of accomplishments, Vero Bowl’s $2.5 million renovation has turned the once-tired bowling alley into an attractive–dare I say hip?–entertainment complex which is just as suitable for watching college football as it is for hosting several bowling leagues every week.  There were 1200 people signed up for  leagues before the alleys reopened.

With 38 flat screen TVs and 32 lanes–rebuilt for last September’s opening–the Vero Bowl isn’t just attractive for a bowling alley, its downright attractive.  With weekly drink specials and arguably the best burgers in town, KingPinz Lounge & Sports Grille is a far cry from greasy spoon fare commonly associated with bowling alleys.  Vero Bowl has truly reinvented itself as a great place to spend time.

So, to both Washington and Vero Bowl–congrats on your success!
