First Presbyterian Church to present John Rutter’s Requiem

VERO BEACH — The First Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir, Soloists, and Chamber Orchestra will present the Requiem by John Rutter on Sunday, April 10 at the 9 and 11 a.m. services.

The Rev. Dr. G. Timothy Womack will preach the sermon titled:  Pausing on the Road to Jerusalem; Moving Day.  Pre-service music will begin at 8:45 and 10:45 a.m.

The music of the Requiem by John Rutter is a celebration of life and a witness to the resurrection through inspirational settings of Psalms 130 and 23, as well as traditional texts pertaining to the heavenly kingdom.

John Rutter is known internationally as a leading contemporary composer of music in nearly every genre, and he is recognized as being particularly gifted as a sacred choral music composer.  Rutter has created a unique version of the Requiem, in that he has added Psalm texts and traditional English texts to portions of the traditional requiem liturgy.

This unique treatment gives the work a reflective and personal quality which expresses the deep emotions surrounding our own lives and mortality.

Dr. Thomas Goetz, Director of Music and Arts at First Presbyterian Church, is conducting the choir and orchestra.

First Presbyterian Church is located at 520 Royal Palm Boulevard, at the corner of Royal Palm and Indian River Boulevard.
