21st Century Remembrance Research topic of genealogical talk

VERO BEACH — Kim V. Garvey, owner of Tree Trax, a genealogical services company, will be the speaker at the Indian River Genealogical Society’s meeting on Tuesday, April 5.  Garvey’s presentation is titled “Pointing the way towards 21st Century Remembrance Research”.  General meetings of the IRGS are free and open to the public.

The IRGS will meet at 9:30 a.m. in the first floor conference room of the Indian River County Main Library, 1600 21st Street, Vero Beach.  Following a brief business session and refreshments, the program will begin about 10:30.

The society’s April meeting will help members become flexible in their thinking in two ways.  Instead of tramping through cemeteries or searching newspaper obituaries, we’ll learn about 21st century techniques to research our ancestors’ lives; and the meeting date, a first Tuesday, is a departure from the society’s regular schedule.

Garvey’s remarks will answer the question, “How will cremation, technology and globalization change the way future genealogists conduct their research?”

In addition to being a professional genealogist, Garvey is a historian, librarian and instructional designer.  She specializes in topics related to immigration, historical methods, cemeteries and ethnicity.
