John J. MacDonald, 93, Vero Beach

John J. MacDonald, 93, of Vero Beach, died Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.

MacDonald was born Dec. 25, 1917, in Port Jervis, N.Y.

He had been a winter resident of Vero Beach since 1983, moving to Vero Beach in 1994 as a full time resident from Pisgah Forest, N.C.

He was the director of International Planning for Celanese Fibers prior to his retirement.

MacDonald was a veteran of World War II, serving as an ensign in the US Navy in Panama.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years Martha MacDonald, of Vero Beach; daughters Nancy MacDonald, of Providence, R.I. and Patricia McDonough, of E. Northport, N.Y.; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six great grandchildren and a step-great grandchild.

He was predeceased by his parents Julia and John MacDonald, his brother Edward MacDonald and his stepson Blair Herndon.

A private family service will take place in New York at a later date.
