Gifford man accused of stealing $4,700 in lawn equipment from county

GIFFORD – A Gifford man is in jail on charges of burglary and resisting arrest after Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Indian River Count Road and Bridge complex on 41st Street Sunday.

According to the Sheriff’s Office arrest report, Jacob Daniel King, 45, and another, unidentified male, broke into the complex and tried to steal weed eaters, an edger, a trimmer, a chainsaw and other such equipment.

Alert citizens called the Sheriff’s Office to report what they suspected was a burglary in progress when they saw the men inside the complex at a time when it was closed.

A K-9 unit responded to the scene and was able to track King to a home on 47th Avenue, where he was found hiding beneath the structure, the arrest report states.

King was taken into custody and told investigators that he and another person were involved in the burglary. Authorities did not include in their report who the other person is.

King remains in the county jail in lieu of $75,500 bail. His charges include four counts of burglary of an auto, boat or conveyance, burglary of a business, third degree grand theft, and resisting arrest without violence.
