Virginia P. Delaney, 92, Vero Beach

Virginia P. Delaney, 92, died March 4, 2011, at Palm Garden of Vero Beach.

She was born in Force, Pa., and has resided in Florida for four years, coming from Seal Beach, Ca. She served in the U.S. Army and was one of eight nurses during World War II in North Africa and Italy.

She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and University of North Carolina, having obtained a degree in nursing.

Survivors include her brother, Ted Palenski, of DuBois, Pa; sisters, Barbara A. Marks, of Sebastian and Monica Reed, of Washington D.C.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Delaney.

No local services are planned.

Interment will be in California.

‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations. Humane Society advises pet owners to prepare for cold

VERO BEACH -- With Treasure Coast temperatures set to dramatically drop this evening and remain chilly throughout the week, the Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County is urging pet owners to protect their animals and offers the following tips: Bring pets indoors. If it's too cold for you, it's too cold for your pets. Even dogs with heavy fur coats should stay inside.
