John T. Panaseny, 79, Sebastian

John T. Panaseny, 79, of Sebastian, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.

Panaseny was born Sept. 27, 1931, in Glen Clove, N.Y.

He was a resident of Sebastian for 16 years, coming from Huntington, N.Y.

He was a licensed land surveyor and was a State “N” Exempted Civil Engineer.

He was a life member of the New York State Association of Professional Land Surveyors, and was the past commodore of the Wyncote Club.

He was a retired Town of Huntington town surveyor and deputy director of Engineering for 31 years.

Panaseny held a lifelong passion for boating. Panaseny was also an avid radio control model aircraft enthusiast, and was a member of the Airmasters R/C Club and Sebastian R/C Club.

He was also a licensed amateur radio operator (N2XGX).  He was a long time member of the Sebastian Elks Lodge and the Polish American Club in Vero Beach.

Panaseny served four years in the US Naval Reserve Seebees.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Gertrude “Trudy” nee Dauch Panaseny; sons, Thomas John Panaseny and John Walter Panaseny; granddaughters, Samantha and Julia; sister, Nina Anastasio.

He is preceded in death by his son, Peter John Panaseny.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, at 10 a.m. at the Seawinds Funeral Home Chapel in Sebastian.
