Motorcyclist killed overnight crossing US 1 bridge in south county

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – A motorcyclist was killed in the early morning hours of Thursday after losing control of his vehicle and striking a guardrail, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Alcohol may have been a factor in the fatal crash, according to the agency.

The motorcyclist, identified as 51-year-old Ricky D. Barner, of Fort Pierce, was traveling south on US 1 at 1 a.m. south of 21st Street S.E. in south Indian River County, when he lost control, struck the metal guardrail and collided with the concrete bridge.

Barner was ejected from his 2004 Harley Davidson Classic.
