Facets of Florida exhibit at the Artists Guild Gallery

VERO BEACH — The Artists Guild Gallery proudly presents Facets of Florida, watercolors by Judy Mercer, on view February 1 through February 28.  An Opening Reception, which is free and open to the public, will be held Friday, February 4, 5 to 8 p.m., coinciding with the 3D District’s Gallery Stroll. Renowned for her vibrant paintings of the Florida Flora and Fauna, Mercer’s artistic journey began with an introductory class in watercolor painting in 1995.  She has since studied with several highly respected and nationally-known watercolor artists.  Her painting and composition skills are not only a reflection of the excellent guidance of these mentors, but of her natural ability to convey with a paintbrush the beauty around her.

Most of Mercer’s paintings begin with her own personal photographs, which range from wildlife and still life to the Florida landscape with all its tropical beauty.  She is a master at conveying light, using watercolor techniques perfected through her own powers of observation and the many hours spent at the easel.  In her work Mercer strives to achieve her signature “underlying glow” using layers of vibrant color washes in just the right places.  This “glow” compels the viewer to take a second closer look when walking by one of her colorful paintings.

“The most gratifying comment,” Mercer says, “is that my paintings make them feel ‘happy.’  When I hear this then I know I have been successful in conveying my feelings about painting.”

Mercer holds memberships in the Vero Beach Art Club, and she has attained signature membership status in both the Florida Watercolor Society and the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society.  Her work resides in numerous private collections in the U.S. and abroad.  She is a very active exhibitor in local and regional art shows, and she has received many awards at these events.

New works by Gallery Member Artists and Consignors will also be on display in a vast array of styles and mediums, including sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, pottery, glass and prints, and of course our new cookbook, “From Our Palette to Your Palate.”

The Gallery is located at 1974 14th Avenue in Vero Beach, and hours are Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and by special appointment.
