Delta Tau Delta members to rally in Vero March 9

VERO BEACH — Alumni and undergraduate members of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity from all chapters will rally March 9 at Caledon Shores, 4600 A1A Highway, Vero Beach, on March 9. Ken File, President of the Foundation, will be present from Indianapolis to give a report on the Fraternity and the Foundation.  Past Foundation Chairman Norval Stephens, a Vero Beach resident, will provide background on the strategic planning the organization is undertaking to continue the growth currently setting records.

The event is free to all members and their wives who may be vacationing on the Treasure Coast or residents, both alumni and undergraduates.  Last year, more than 40 were present from 16 chapters.  Undergraduates from the new chapter at Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne will attend.

Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." Fertilizer restrictions to go into effect next month

A reminder from the Indian River Neighborhood Association to residents of Indian River County, City of Vero Beach, Sebastian and Orchid. We are coming into our rainy season when more nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorous are likely to be washed from our lawns, driveways and roads into the storm water system and, ultimately, into our local waterways such as the Indian River Lagoon. The fertilizer ordinances passed by our communities goes into effect June 1st. It prohibits the use of lawn fertilizer between June 1st and September 30th. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
