Seuss by Night to spotlight Seuss statues

VERO BEACH — Sunshine will be replaced by spotlights as McKee Botanical Garden kicks off four Friday night Seuss by Night after-dark events on January 21, February 18, March 18 and April 15 from 6 to 8 p.m.  The evenings will feature A Season of Seuss: The Dr. Seuss Sculpture Garden and Art Exhibit lit for nighttime viewing.  General admission rates apply. “We have very few night events, and they really are such a different way to see A Season of Seuss and the Garden as a whole,” explained Executive Director Christine Hobart.  “It’s less about the plants and architecture, and more about the adventure of being outdoors after dark.”

In addition to spotlights on each sculpture, Seuss by Night will feature luminaria-lined pathways, colored landscape lights, Dr. Seuss movies playing in an on-site Education Building, books and games in a Dr. Seuss Reading Room, and refreshments being served in the Garden Café operated by Elizabeth D. Kennedy & Co.

A Season of Seuss includes large-scale bronze statues of The Cat in the Hat, The Grinch, The Lorax, Green Eggs and Ham and Yertle the Turtle.  Also featured are nine imaginary creatures from Dr. Seuss’s Collection of Unorthodox Taxidermy, such as the Mulberry Street Unicorn and Semi-Normal Green-Lidded Fawn.
