Kenneth Dames, 91, Vero Beach

Kenneth Dames, 91, of Vero Beach, died Dec. 28, 2010, at VNA Hospice.

He was born in the Bahamas and was a resident of Vero Beach for 13 years, coming from Evanston, Ill.

Before retirement, he was a private security officer for G.D. Searle in Skokie, Ill.

He was a member of Mount Zion A.M.E. Church in Gifford and a Masonic Lodge in the Bahamas.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Winifred Cooper Dames; daughters, Heather Holmes, of Fort Pierce, and Wendy Lee, of Vero Beach; son, Kenneth Dames Jr., of Chicago; brothers, Leonard Dames and Percy Strathan, both of the Bahamas; sisters, Leanna Rolle, Rebecca Rolle, and Dolly Saunders, all of the Bahamas, and Ada Johnson, of Miami; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 7 at Aycock Funeral Home, Fort Pierce.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 8 at Mount Zion AM.E. Church, Gifford.

Cremation and inurnment will be private.
