Henry A. Fischer, 87, Vero Beach

Henry A. Fischer, 87, died Jan. 2, 2011, at Indian River Estates.

He was born in Troy, N.Y., and lived in Vero Beach.

He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II.

Before retirement, he worked for the law firm of Herron and Lawler in Malone, N.Y., where he served as district attorney for 20 years.

He also was a defense attorney for 20 years.

He graduated from Cornell Law School with honors.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy; son, Henry Alan, of Virginia; daughters, Kathleen Greenwood, of Vermont, Nancy Williams, of Texas and Mary Moran, of New York; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are by Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory in Vero Beach.

Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations. Environmental specialists with the Florida Department of Health in Indian River County collected water samples at the beaches Monday and on Jan. 28. Vero attorney suspended for 1 year, FL Bar says

A Vero Beach lawyer faces a one-year suspension following accusations he did not properly supervise employees, who authorities said misused client funds among other offenses, according to the Florida Bar. The Florida Supreme Court suspended Jonathan Fredrick Bull. His suspension will be effective 30 days after the Oct. 18 court order, officials said. The employees, who were not lawyers, "solicited clients, accepted legal representation on behalf of the firm, quoted legal fees, took payments and misused client funds without Bull's knowledge," the Bar said. Authorities said Bull also neglected a client's account and failed to tell clients his law firm was closed and that he was no longer representing them.
