John W. Tippin, 76, Vero Beach; former County Commissioner

John W. Tippin, 76, died Dec. 29, 2010, at his home.

He was born and raised in Vero Beach.

Before retirement, he owned and operated Tippin Landscaping Service for 27 years.

He served as a member and chairman of the Indian River County Planning and Zoning Board, followed by 10 years of service as a county commissioner.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church since childhood.

He graduated from Vero Beach High School in 1952 and received a degree in public administration from Florida State University in 1956.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; son, Michael J. Tippin; daughters, Anne E. Wilcox, Patricia D. Hunsader and Linda K. Tippins; brothers, James B. Tippin Jr. and Stanley L. Tippin; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward G. Tippin.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Jan. 1 at the Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach.

Family visitation will be at Grace Lutheran Church from 2 to 3 p.m. Jan. 2 with a celebration of life service at 3 p.m. at the church.

Interment will follow in Crestlawn Cemetery in Vero Beach.
