George F. Bachmann, 94, Vero Beach

George F. Bachmann, 94, of Vero Beach, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, at his home.

Bachmann was born Nov. 5, 1916, in the Bronx, N.Y.

He was a resident of Vero Beach for the last 20 years, moving to the area after an overseas assignment with the Peace Corps.

Bachmann was a decorated Army Veteran and served during World War II.

During his time of service he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.

Bachmann worked as an administrative assistant for the New York City Transit Authority.

Bachmann did two tours with the Peace Corps.

He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, the VFW, past treasurer of the Vero Beach Photo Club, past president of the Village Walk Homeowners Association and was a Salvation Army Bell Ringer for the last 17 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel; daughters, Christine Steinkrauss, of the Republic of Panama and Barbara du Pont, of Vero Beach; son, George Bachmann Jr., of Vero Beach.

He is survived by four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army at PO Box 2864, Vero Beach, FL 32961.

A visitation will be held from 12-2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18, with a service following at 2 p.m. at the Cox-Gifford-Seawinds chapel.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach, Florida.
