Silver Tones Holiday Concert

VERO BEACH — The Senior Resource Association (SRA) proudly presents a Holiday Concert on Tuesday December 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Vero Beach. This is the first concert of the season for the Silver Tones Chorus, which is made up of 37 members. The Chorus began performing in 1987 and is currently under the direction of Shirley Bishop.  This wonderful holiday event is made possible by a generous sponsorship from the Leo & Peggy Pierce Family Foundation.

Admission is a suggested $5 donation at the door and includes light refreshments and a chance to win door prizes.  All proceeds from the event benefit the Senior Resource Association which provides activities, education and services to seniors in our community.

Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." Fertilizer restrictions to go into effect next month

A reminder from the Indian River Neighborhood Association to residents of Indian River County, City of Vero Beach, Sebastian and Orchid. We are coming into our rainy season when more nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorous are likely to be washed from our lawns, driveways and roads into the storm water system and, ultimately, into our local waterways such as the Indian River Lagoon. The fertilizer ordinances passed by our communities goes into effect June 1st. It prohibits the use of lawn fertilizer between June 1st and September 30th. Santa visits students at GYAC

GIFFORD — In the days leading up to Christmas, the jolly Saint Nicholas cleared up his busy schedule of gift giving to make sure students at a youth center received presents on their wish list. Saint Nicholas, better known as Santa Claus, visited youth last Thursday afternoon at Gifford Youth Achievement Center. The man in the traditional red and white outfit with a white beard was GYAC staff member Lebon Nicholas, happily providing each student with a gift. The students sung Christmas carols inside the gymnasium and the youth orchestra performed classic holiday tunes.
