County to carve protective firelines for Oslo Riverfront Conservation Area

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Protective firelines are planned for the Oslo Riverfront Conservation Area in southern Indian River County.

Indian River County Conservation Lands Manager, Beth Powell announced that protective firelines will soon be cut between the South Oslo Riverfront Conservation Area (SORCA) and nearby residential housing. The project site is located east of Tanglewood Circle, south of 9th Street SE and north of 12th Street SE.

This project entails grinding vegetation less than an 8-inch diameter along the perimeter of the conservation area.

Because the firelines are designed and placed to abate wildfire threat to homes and neighbors adjacent to SORCA, residents adjacent to the conservation area will see and hear the equipment as it is working.  At completion, this project will help prevent the spread of wildfire near area homes.

If residents have any questions they may contact Beth Powell at (772) 226-1873.
