Sebastian Council candidates tackle questions of economy, development

Moore, Zudans, Carroll win Vero City Council race; Rosario wins School Board District 2 seat

Linda Moore, Tracey Zudans and John M. Carroll Jr. won the three open seats in Tuesday's general election for Vero Beach City Council, according to the Indian River County Supervisor of Elections website. Five other candidates trailed behind in the vote count. Zudans had 15 percent of votes, while Moore and Carroll had 14 percent of votes. Rosario won the District 2 seat for the Indian River County School Board. Rosario competed against Cynthia Gibbs in a runoff race for the school board seat. Both candidates, along with two others, ran in the August Primary Election. A winner was not declared for the primaries since no candidate earned more than 50 percent of the votes. Unofficial results in for Vero Beach, Sebastian and Fellsmere elections

Update: The unofficial votes are in for the Tuesday municipal elections for Vero Beach, Sebastian and Fellsmere. Voters made their pick on council members for Vero Beach and Sebastian. Residents also made their choices on charter amendments and referendums for Vero Beach, Sebastian and Fellsmere. All precincts were completely reported and all election day and vote-by-mail ballots were all in just before 8 p.m., according to the Indian River County Supervisor of Elections website. There were 30, 393 registered voters in Indian River County for this year's municipal election. Residents cast 7, 626 ballots and voter turnout was at 25.09 percent. Here are the unofficial results. County announces beach closures ahead of beach restoration project

At least two beaches will be closed starting this weekend ahead of the beach restoration project, which will start back up next week, county officials said. The project aims to restore sand - which had been washed away by storms and hurricanes over the years - at the beaches. Beach park access at Seagrape Trail Beach Access and Treasure Shores Park Beach will both close starting Friday, county officials said. Seagrape Trail Beach is located south of Wabasso Beach, off Highway A1A. Treasure Shores Park Beach is located north of Wabasso Beach.
