John ‘Jack’ Joseph Cohane, 69, Vero Beach

John “Jack” Joseph Cohane, 69, of Vero Beach, and Nantucket, Mass., formerly of Boston’s Beacon Hill, died on Friday Oct. 8, 2010, in Boston surrounded by his loving family.

Cohane was born in Dorchester, Mass., on Oct. 3, 1941 and was the son of Helen (Leary) and John J. Cohane. After graduating from Dorchester High School in Boston, Mass., Jack joined the United States Marine Corp.

He was a graduate of Boston College and an employee of Boston Gas Company & Affiliates for 37 years before retiring in a senior management position.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanne (McDermott) Cohane; daughters Susan (Kevin) Klein, Katey Cohane, Jacqueline (Richard) Cirillo Meisenberg; sons, Paul (Jonna) Cohane (QFD), Kevin (Jenny) Cohane, and Robert Peter (Keely) Cirillo; sister, Miriam Kelleher; brother, Richard Cohane; 12 grandchildren.

Jack’s greatest loves were his wife, his family and friends; and everyone was his friend. He was very passionate about golf, traveling, reading, gardening, food, and a good drink.

He lived happily in Boston and that life grew to include many new, close relationships on Nantucket, Mass., and in Vero Beach that evolved into cherished friendships. Jack so loved his life.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Saint Joseph Church, 68 William Cardinal O’Connell Way, Boston, Mass., 02114, on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 10 a.m.

Family will be accepting visitors from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Boston Harborside Home of J.S. Waterman & Sons, 580 Commercial St. Boston MA 02109.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack’s memory may be made to the Foundation for Retinal Research (The PapaJack & Annie Fund), 666 Dundee Road #1104, Northbrook, IL 60062.
