Detour to Vero Beach High School for entertainment

VERO BEACH — With all the changes in the community, the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Department remains committed to their goal of providing affordable and quality arts programs for Indian River County students and patrons. Tickets are now on sale for the 2010-2011 Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Season.

On Sunday, November 7, the Vero Beach High School Symphony Orchestra will perform “A Little Nightmare Music” including Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain, Saint-Saens’ Danse Macbre, and Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suit. This performance will benefit the orchestra’s trip to Kansas City in March to compete at the National Orchestra Festival.  The VBHS Orchestra was one of only twelve orchestras nationwide invited to attend this prestigious event.

On Saturday and Sunday, November 20 and 2, the students involved in the Competitive Theatre Ensemble will participate in “Children of Eden.”  With special arrangement through Music Theatre International, music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, comes a joyous and inspirational musical about parents, children and faith… not to mention centuries of unresolved family business! The show ultimately delivers a bittersweet but inspiring message: that “the hardest part of love… is letting go.”

Friday, February 11 to Sunday, February 13 yield to the amazing sights and sounds in one of the most captivating musicals of our time, “Bye Bye Birdie.” The musical was the winner of 4 Tony Awards and is presented through special arrangement with Tams-Witmark Music Library.

Those tickets are sold separately from the package at $10 for the upper Mezzanine level and $12 for the lower Orchestra level.  Make your reservations early for the special Children’s Day when those 12 & under receive half off their admission. Take extreme caution and do not wait; all seating is reserved.

In addition, on Saturday, March 26 to Monday, March 28 the VBHS Band will present their 18th Annual Red, White & Blue Concert “American Patriotic Sketches.” With only $12 General Admission and $6 tickets for Veterans, you must stop here for great music; it is the Patriotic Event of the Year!

In May, merge with the Vero Beach High School Chorus Department as they take you on a musical journey through time singing pieces from all of the eras of music in “Singing Through the Centuries” with performances from Mozart to present day and “Bach” again.

The 2010-2011 VBHS Performing Arts Season Ticket Package is only $50 and the best deal in city limits, encompassing eight events including Jazz and Classical Symphony Concerts, dramatic and choral presentations and much more.
