Indian River Medical to host Swing for Health Golf Classic

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Indian River Medical Center Foundation (IRMCF) will hold its 21st Annual Swing For Health Golf Classic on Monday Dec. 6 at Hawk’s Nest Golf Club in Vero Beach.

Registration will begin promptly at 11 a.m., with a Noon shotgun start.  The cost is $275 per player or $1,100 per foursome, which includes a boxed lunch, round of golf, open bar, heavy hors d’oeuvres, and prizes. 

This year’s tournament will be led by Dr. William Cooney, III, chairman, and Mr. Sam Murdough, co-chair.

Indian River Medical Center Foundation is dedicated to supporting capital improvements and special projects at IRMC.  The Foundation’s current top priorities include funding a new Post Anesthesia Care Unit or recovery room and Surgical Intensive Care Unit.

Indian River County plans walking trail for former Dodgertown golf course

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The county is planning a major upgrade to the recently acquired defunct Dodgertown golf course. A roughly mile-long walking trail is slated to be carved out on the long-shuttered course, providing the public improved accessibility to the adjacent historic Jackie Robinson Training Complex with a pedestrian connection to 43rd Avenue and Aviation Boulevard. The proposed walking trail, which has yet to be designed and could be longer than a mile upon completion, will likely include a pedestrian bridge connection to the cloverleaf fields and a new tree line buffer along 43rd Avenue, according to county documents. St. Ed’s Middle school golfers show promise for future

St. Ed’s 2014 Middle School Golf team has only four regular season matches scheduled with two schools before the championship of the Treasure Coast Athletic Conference is determined at a tournament scheduled for April 28. The Pirates have already defeated the Pine School twice with two matches remaining against St. Joseph’s, including the makeup of a rainout. Some impressive rounds have characterized the duels with Pine School. Eighth grader Anirudh Mysore carded a 42 at the Martin County Golf & Country Club.
