China National baseball team begins training at Vero Beach Sports Village

VERO BEACH – An international baseball club will once again train at the Vero Beach Sports Village.  Beginning today through Oct. 24, the China National Baseball Team will live, work out and play exhibition games at the 67-acre complex, formerly known as Dodgertown.

The 25-man China National Baseball Team will play nine of its 12 exhibition games at Holman Stadium on the Vero Beach Sports Village grounds. The games will be played against clubs consisting of players from Major League organizations involved in instructional league camps.

It also has a game scheduled with the Junior National Team of Canada.  A complete schedule of exhibition games involving the China National Baseball Team can be found at www.vbsportsvillage.com.

Veteran Minor League skipper Tom Lawless, who piloted the Lancaster JetHawks in the California League this season, will manage the China Team.

Left-hander Scott McGregor, who spent 13 seasons with the Baltimore Orioles, will serve as the club’s pitching coach.

Some of the other professional baseball clubs from Asia to train at Vero Beach Sports Village include the Yomiuri Giants, Chunichi Dragons and Osaka Buffaloes from Japan; the Samsung Lions and LG Twins from Korea; and the Sinon Bulls from Taiwan.
