Royal Ballroom introduces dance to area youth

VERO BEACH — Oleg and Asya Dimitrov of Royal Ballroom Studio have partnered with Dasie Bridgewater Hope Center and Youth Guidance Mentoring and Activities on Dance Stars, a week-long program to introduce at-risk children to the enjoyment, discipline and beauty of ballroom dancing.

Children selected by the two nonprofit organizations will come to Royal Ballroom Dance Studio on September 20, 22 and 24 for one-hour group lessons, 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. Following the last lesson, the children will perform a brief demonstration for family and friends.

“We hope to spark in the children an interest in creatively expressing themselves through the art of ballroom dance,” said Asya Dimitrov, instructor and co-owner of Royal Ballroom Dance Studio. “We plan to introduce the children to the basic steps of Waltz and Swing and will spend time on the history of ballroom dance and fundamental dance etiquette.”

The Dance Stars program is being held during National Ballroom Dance Week (September 17-26).

Dasie Bridgewater Hope Center is a free after-school program serving approximately 125 children living in the Wabasso area from kindergarten through high school. Programs include homework assistance, computer lab, creative arts and outdoor sports. Youth Guidance Mentoring and Activities serves approximately 700 at-risk children from single-parent families through one-on-one mentoring relationships and educational activities throughout the year.

Royal Ballroom Dance Studio, located at 1533 US #1 in the K-Mart Plaza, provides all levels of social and competitive ballroom dance instruction.
