Impact 100 offers workshop on Transformational Philanthropy

VERO BEACH — On September 14, representatives from Indian River County non profit organizations are invited to spend the morning learning how to create persuasive applications to attract transformational grants. The seminar, hosted by Impact 100 of Indian River County, and sponsored by Wilmington Trust, is open to all non profits serving the area. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Richardson Center on the campus of Indian River State College, 6155 College Lane, Vero Beach.

Several members of the Executive Committee of Impact 100 including President Laura McDermott and Jane Coyle, Chairman of the Grants Committee will be on hand. Lenora Ritchie, Executive Director of the McCabe Foundation will facilitate the seminar. This seminar is in its third year and has explored the concept of successfully writing a grant that is transformational and sustainable. All those who have attended in the past have found it extremely useful to use this organizational training session as a tool for being better educated about the rigorous application process.

Impact 100 was founded in 2008 as a philanthropic group that allows women to pool resources and make transformational grants in the amount of $100,000 or more to organizations in Indian River County.

In the first year, Impact 100 awarded two grants of $102,500 each to Treasure Coast Food Bank and Exchange Club CASTLE. The Food Bank is committed to making sure that no elementary school child in Indian River County will have to face a weekend with the idea of there being no food in their home. Today over 1700 backpacks are distributed to children in 8 elementary schools at the end of each school week.

Exchange Club CASTLE is now able to pursue its dream of planning for a family service center in Indian River County. Now every child in this community will have a safe, healthy and happy home to grow and thrive in, free from the fear of abuse and neglect.

In April of 2010, two more grants of $116,000 each were awarded to Childcare Resources and The Harvest Food and Outreach Center. At this point in time, we had a total of 232 members. Our goal for 2010-11 is: Three Years, Three Non Profit Awards and $300,000!
