UPDATE: Pedestrian dies after crash in Vero Beach Walmart parking lot

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – The pedestrian struck in the Vero Beach Wal-mart parking lot Monday has died, according to authorities.

The woman, identified as 71-year-old Roberta J. Adams, of Sebastian, succumbed to her injuries Tuesday. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Jonas A. Batcheller, 78, was driving a 2002 Toyota Camry, when he struck Adams and then collided with a blue safety pole in front of the Wal-mart entrance.

He and his passenger Faith Batcheller, 76, were taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, where he was listed in fair condition and she in critical.

The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the crash. Charges are pending the outcome of that investigation.
