UPDATE: Brush fire near I-95 contained

UPDATED 6:41 p.m.INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The fire that started shortly after 12:30 p.m. west of Interstate 95 near the 154 mile marker was 100% contained at 4:30 p.m. according to the Florida Division of Forestry.

No structures were damaged during the fire but one home, a large power line grid (wood poles), and a hunting camp were threatened.

The fire encompassed 90 acres and was sparked by a bolt of lightning.

Emergency crews responded to the brush fire to combat the fire and assist in traffic control in the event the smoke traveled across I-95.

Woman’s car catches fire in Fellsmere

Photo provided by Fellsmere Police Department FELLSMERE — A motorist called 911 Friday afternoon after her car suddenly burst into flames while she was driving, police said. Police and fire rescue crews went to the scene and quickly extinguished the blaze. "She said all the dashboard lights started flickering," Fellsmere police Sgt. Scott Newsom said. The woman was not injured. The flames originated in the engine compartment and did not spread to the grass, police and fire rescue crews said. Troopers ID woman killed in I-95 NB crash in Indian River County

Photo provided by Jamie Beck INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Florida highway troopers identified a woman killed in a rollover crash that blocked traffic on northbound Interstate 95 for nearly five hours Tuesday. The crash happened at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday on northbound I-95, near the 145 mile marker. Troopers said passenger Silvana Lopez, 50, of Lake Worth, was pronounced dead at the scene. Lopez was the only occupant not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, reports show.
