Michael Grivas, 87, Vero Beach

Michael Grivas, 87, died Monday, June 7, 2010 at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.

He was the son of Greek immigrants who raised a family in New York City. He worked as an industrial designer, designing exhibits in New York City.

In 1956, Mr. Grivas and his wife, along with their daughter Paula relocated from New York to Chicago. In 1959, he founded MG Design Associates Corp, which is a leading company today, 51 years later.

His passions were drawing, painting, playing tennis and above all his family. His sharp sense of wit and his humor will be greatly missed.

Mr. Grivas was a member and past President of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Fort Pierce. Mr. Grivas is survived by his beloved wife, Doris; loving father of Pamela (Edward) Conti, Paula (William) Shows and Michael (Christine) Grivas; dear grandfather “Nono” of Alex Goldstein, Sara (Thaxton) Peterson, Christopher (Sarah) and Jonathan Shows, Kristen, Courtney and Michael Grivas, Christopher, Carly and Juliana Otis; great grandfather “Nono” of Sydney Peterson.

He was the dear brother of the late Theodora (the late Kay) Poulos and Joanne (the late Edward) Hawthorne; loving uncle of nieces, Priscilla (John) Kelly and Kathleen (Richard) Anton.

A visitation will be held June 8, 2010 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Fort Pierce from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

A Trisagion service will be held at 6 p.m. St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church is located at 2525 South 25th Street in Fort Pierce.
