James E. Gearhardt, 68, Vero Beach

James E. Gearhardt, 68, died May 22, 2010, at VNA Hospice House.

He was born in Troy, Ohio, and lived in Vero Beach for more than 30 years. He was a veteran of the Army.

He worked as a master carpenter in the Vero Beach and Sebastian area for over 30 years.

He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Italian American Club, both of Vero Beach.

Survivors include his companion, Alice Sullivan of Vero Beach; sister, Mary Ellen Brown of Oklahoma; brothers, John Gearhardt of Ohio and Mike Gearhardt of Fort Pierce.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. May 27 at Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home and Crematory. A guestbook is available at www.lowtherfuneralhome.com.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. ‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
