Sebastian Police find man, 57, dead in conservation area from apparent suicide

SEBASTIAN — A 57-year-old Sebastian man was found dead Wednesday morning in the North County Conservation Area behind Sebastian City Hall after he called the Sebastian Police Department to report his intent to hurt himself, authorities said.

Officer Steve Marcinik said the man, whose identity has not yet been released to the public, called the police shortly before 9 a.m. to tell them he planned to hurt himself. By the time officers responded to the general area the man told them he would be, he had apparently shot himself in the head, Officer Marcinik said.

Officer Marcinik said he was not aware of the details of the man’s phone call to police and could not say if the man had offered a reason for his actions.
