W. Gene Purvis, 67, Vero Beach

W. Gene Purvis, 67, died May 2, 2010, at his home.

He was a lifetime resident of Vero Beach. Before retirement, he owned and operated Gene Purvis Backhoe Service for 35 years.

Survivors include his son, L. Gene Purvis of Vero Beach; daughters, Coralena Crosier of Gainesville and Kitty Purvis of Vero Beach; brother, Jack Purvis of Vero Beach; and sisters, Alma Baker of Roseland, Shirley Keen of Vero Beach and Janet Bass of Bell.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lottie Purvis; brother, Bill Purvis; and sister, Polly Roberts.

Memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. May 5 at Strunk Funeral Home. A funeral service to be at 10:30 a.m. May 6, at the funeral home with the Rev. Jerry Shepherd officiating.

Interment will follow in Winter Beach Cemetery, Winter Beach. A guest book may be signed at strunk funeralhome.com.

‘Tragic, sudden loss,’ – Memorials emerge for teen killed in ATV crash

With the sudden death of Sebastian River High School student Jake Beecher still fresh, family, friends, teammates and coaches continue to come to terms with the tragic crash that took his life.
