Red Cross disaster feeding class being offered

VERO BEACH — The North Treasure Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross, in partnership with the Community Church and Linus Cadillac, is offering a two day class to teach our volunteers procedures for disaster feeding.  Friday, May 14 will be the class portion of the training and on Saturday, May 15, the volunteers will prepare the food at the Community Church kitchen. The prepared meals will then be served to volunteers at Habitat for Humanity projects in Vero at Grace Groves and Oslo Park.

“When you have many people in shelters or tent cities, many meals need to be prepared and then properly handled for mobile feeding. Most people wouldn’t know how to cook for 100 people,” Lisa Poziomek, Director of Volunteers for the chapter explained.

“What a great way for our volunteers to learn how to run a disaster kitchen and then serve other hardworking volunteers in our community,” Poziomek said.  “We are grateful to Community Church and Linus Cadillac for helping ensure our volunteers are better prepared as we approach this hurricane season.”
