Fertilizer restrictions to go into effect next month

A reminder from the Indian River Neighborhood Association to residents of Indian River County, City of Vero Beach, Sebastian and Orchid. We are coming into our rainy season when more nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorous are likely to be washed from our lawns, driveways and roads into the storm water system and, ultimately, into our local waterways such as the Indian River Lagoon. The fertilizer ordinances passed by our communities goes into effect June 1st. It prohibits the use of lawn fertilizer between June 1st and September 30th. Officers save man from jumping off bridge in Vero Beach

VERO BEACH — Two Vero Beach police officers saved a man after he tried to jump off a bridge last Friday, Vero Beach police said. Police responded shortly before 2 p.m. June 23 to a call of a man possibly attempting to jump off the Alma Lee Loy Bridge on State Road 656, near Indian River Boulevard, a news release said. When officers Richard Chimenti and Kyle Eder arrived at the scene, they saw a man sitting alone on the railing and facing the water on the south side of the bridge.
