Navy League dinner meeting

VERO BEACH — On Thursday, May 13, members and guests of the Treasure Coast Council of the Navy League of the U.S. will gather at the Best Western, 8797 20th Street (Route 60), Vero Beach, for the Council’s monthly dinner meeting.

Social hour begins at 5:00 p.m. with a cash bar and passed hors d’oeuvres followed at 6 p.m. with a poolside barbeque buffet.  Music will be provided by Kent Brown.

The evening gives veterans of all services, non-veterans and their guests an excellent opportunity to socialize.  Cost of the event is $17 per person.

Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." Fertilizer restrictions to go into effect next month

A reminder from the Indian River Neighborhood Association to residents of Indian River County, City of Vero Beach, Sebastian and Orchid. We are coming into our rainy season when more nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorous are likely to be washed from our lawns, driveways and roads into the storm water system and, ultimately, into our local waterways such as the Indian River Lagoon. The fertilizer ordinances passed by our communities goes into effect June 1st. It prohibits the use of lawn fertilizer between June 1st and September 30th. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
