James M. Wharton 58, Vero Beach

James M. Wharton 58, died April 13, 2010.

He was born at the Naval CBC Base in Port Hueneme, Calif., and moved to Vero Beach in 1979 where he opened Budget Rent-A-Car of Vero Beach & Jim Wharton Auto Sales.

He was most recently employed at Pressure Pro in Fort Pierce.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 40 years, Sherry Wharton, his daughters Wyndee Harp and Jamie Woodson; grandchildren, Chelsea and Logan; and sons-in-law, Tracy Harp & Ryan Woodson.

Memorial Service will be held in the Prayer Chapel at the First Church of God, 1105 58th Ave., Vero Beach Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 11 a.m.

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. "It's a great thing," Vero Beach Lifeguard Association officials said in a statement. "We hope people are paying attention to lifeguards and condition signs before they go into the water." ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations. Howle, Zudans win in Vero; Kinchen, McPartlan, Iovino in Sebastian

All results are in for the Vero Beach and Sebastian municipal elections. Voters have returned Harry Howle to the Vero Beach Council and Bob McPartlan and Linda Kinchen to the Sebastian Council. Val Zudans will join Howle on the Vero Council, while Albert Iovino will round out the last of three seats up for grabs on the Sebastian Council.
