Vero Beach woman flown to Lawnwood Regional after wreck

VERO BEACH — A Vero Beach woman is in critical condition at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Ft. Pierce after she lost control of her vehicle and overturned near the intersection of 12th Street and 48th Court Wednesday morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported the crash occurred shortly before 10:30 a.m. when driver 18-year-old Brittany Veltri lost control of the 2000 Jeep Cherokee, overcorrected then overturned. The vehicle came to a rest on the north shoulder of 12th Street. Veltri was airlifted to Lawnwood to be treated for her injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, according to FHP spokesman Tim Frith. No other drivers were involved in the incident.

Clearwater police ID victims in Thursday fatal plane crash

CLEARWATER — Police identified a Melbourne Beach man as the pilot of a plane that experienced an engine failure before crashing into a mobile home unit late Thursday, killing three people. The impact killed the man along with two women who were in the residence. Officers also released the identities of the women. The Beechcraft Bonanza V35 aircraft took off from Vero Beach Regional Airport and crashed in Clearwater, aviation officials said. Clearwater police identified the pilot as 54-year-old Jemin Patel. Man walking on tracks struck by Brightline in Indian River County

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A man walking on the railroad tracks was struck and killed by a 110-mph northbound Brightline train late Monday, sheriff's officials said. This is the first fatality involving Brightline to occur in Indian River County, sheriff's spokesperson Sgt. Kevin Jaworski said. "At 9:59 p.m., a conductor with Brightline called into 911 stating that the train struck a pedestrian trespassing on the tracks," Jaworski said. Sheriff's officials identified the man as 29-year-old Wesley Alan Ducheneaux. The crash occurred directly east of the 1800 block of Old Dixie Highway Southwest in south county.
